Summary/Abstract: This paper is an attempt examining how Russian view in life was a parallel to the ancient Indian philosophies and the courses that culled them. While arguing the distinct nature of Russia as a different civilization devoid of East or West, this paper tends to show the similarities that Russian thinkers developed towards life in general with the ancient Indic thought. In particular, the works of Russian authors in the 19th century such as Gogol, Tolstoy and Dostoyevsky are being discussed here as their literary works share certain parallels with the ancient Indian philosophies. Furthermore, this paper investigates the overall value of Russian orientalism as a stark contrast to Said’s depiction of “Orientalism” by evaluating the contributions of two Russian Indologists.
