Summary/Abstract: Migration is a social phenomenon known for centuries. The reasons for moving the population from one to another part of the country and the world were different. However, it is a fact that the largest population migrations took place after turning points in certain regions of the world, which threatened people’s lives, whether they were natural phenomena or wars. Modern migrations in the world are primarily economic and those caused by wars. This work mainly deals with population migrations in war-affected areas, while it also covers population migrations for economic reasons. Although it covers different reasons for migration, the paper aims to analyze the impact of migration on security in those regions to which migrants move, as well as areas on their route. In this sense, migrations towards the European Union and the USA as destinations and in Serbia, as an area on the migration route, are included. The basic hypothesis of the research was that regardless of the reason for mass migrations in modern conditions, they carry security threats both in the selected destination countries and in the regions along the migration routes. In reaching the goal and confirming the hypothesis, the primary methods used were: content analysis and case studies. The work was created against the background of the first author’s graduation thesis and the co-author’s many years of dealing with security issues. The diploma thesis of the first author was successfully defended at the Faculty of Business Studies and Law in 2024.
