Summary/Abstract: Sunken German ships from the Second World War on the Danube River in the Prahovo region, apart from narrowing the waterway, represent a danger and risk to shipping traffic. Risks and dangers are reflected in the possibility of the vessel stranding on sunken parts of ships, as well as explosions caused by the passage of the ship, touching or due to the exposure of explosives on sunken ships to electromagnetic flux, sound or hydrostatic pressure and other influences. Considering that the Republic of Serbia is obliged to remove them, the aim of this research is to identify the risks that may occur during the removal of these ships. Research of the Danube - Prahovo region (857 - 863 km) around sunken ships was carried out using combined methods. Data collection methods were used to analyze data obtained from previous researches, by interviewing participants of previous researches, and for data processing a hypothetical deductive method, as well as a comparison with data from GIS and data from navigation maps. The analysis of previous investigations of potentially dangerous objects provides complete data on coordinates, dimensions of objects, depth of immersion, condition and shapes of shipwrecks, which served as a basis for identifying possible dangers and risks that may occur during the removal of sunken ships on the warweway. The research defined the existing risks from sunken ships and potential risks for future works during the removal of ships. The impacts on the population, infrastructure, energy facilities, as well as risks for navigation safety are described. By removing risks on the waterway, throughput and competitiveness are increased, the functioning of water traffic is more efficient and of a higher quality in the form of cost reduction, technical restrictions, as well as the implementation of regulations in the field of hazard elimination and environmental protection.
