Summary/Abstract: The ocus of this text is the 2014 graphic novel Lost Souls by Maciej Świerkocki (author of the idea and all texts) and Mariusz Sołtysik (graphic designer), set during World War II in a location identifiable as the Litzmannstadt Ghetto – a segregated area of the city where the Jewish population was confined and isolated by German occupation authorities. The article explores how the work engages with the city of Łódź, examining in detail the dimensions in which this occurs. The authors pay particular attention to the topographical markers anchoring the story, clear historical determinants influencing the work’s content and form, as well as the thematic references within its verbal and visual layers. Additionally, they address aspects such as the work’s origin, publication sponsorship, reception, and the creators’ biographical backgrounds. The authors propose that future studies of the city’s representation should also consider how it is portrayed in hybrid formats that merge word and image – of which the comic form is just one example.
