Summary/Abstract: With the rise of generative artificial intelligence, humans increasingly engage with agentsof ambiguous ontological status. The universe of virtual influencers and lovebots shapesthe worldview of the youngest generation growing up in the transhumanist landscape ofsynthetic media. This article focuses on artificial empathy – the phenomenon of artificialcompanions: computer-generated, anthropomorphic, hyperrealistic images simulatinghuman experiences and emotions. These digitally embodied, socially interactive agentsfulfill opinion-forming functions. Their operators leverage influence tactics to engagein parasocial relationships. The technological production of corporeality means thatartificial intelligence operators possess an algorithmic disguise – a spectacular humanmask enabling the acquisition and monetization of user data in affective capitalism.
