Summary/Abstract: The subject of the article are the relations between a little-known Enlightenment writer, a Vilnius resident, Wincenty Ignacy Marewicz (1755–1822), and the Grand Chancellor of Lithuania, Marshal of the Lithuanian Tribunal, Aleksander Michał Sapieha (1730–1793). Works by Marewicz related to this outstanding statesman included inscriptions to the writer’s separate works, to his collection of works in verse and prose, texts from that collection as well as works published separately in the form of leaflets (including the one unrecorded in bio-bibliographic studies). Relations between these two men, as they appear in Marewicz’s works written from 1778 to 1795, are presented in an interesting way, yet they seem mysterious and vague. In his works Marewicz repeatedly mentions how close he was to the magnate, but this claim seems to be unfounded as there is no proof that Aleksander Sapieha took care of „the skinny writer” or provided his patronage.
