Summary/Abstract: Modern Greek is characterized by considerably increasing number of adjectives with three endings, one for each gender. Having perspicuity in indicating each gender by a distinct ending and, as well, convenience of parisyllabic inflexion, the three-ending adjectives preponderate over those of one or two endings. It is to be mentioned that the process of retreat of one- and two-ending adjectives followed the gradual disappearance of the consonantal stem of third declension. Some of them fell into oblivion and some of them survived in remodeled form (as metaplasm). However, there is a certain number of those adjectives still in use in some collocations, but preferably as nouns. Generally, adjectives in Greek are closely related to the nouns not only by following various noun declensions, but by serving as nouns themselves.
