Summary/Abstract: The animal world holds an important place in the Vandal period poems of the Anthologia Latina: in these we find descriptions of animals, animals in extraordinary situations, tamed or domesticated animals, animals transformed into dishes. Most of these creatures are presented in astonishing ways; some exhibit human features; some manifest a particular behaviour that is symbolic. Through analysis of the poems we examine whichever details are susceptible to symbolic interpretation.
