Summary/Abstract: The aim of the article is to present the party-forming function of thepresidential elections in Poland. From the perspective of evidence of thecartelization of the Polish party system, this analysis points to presidentialelections as a political structure of opportunity. It is then treated as a politicalopportunity, thanks to which new entities may appear on the political scene. The basis for building a new political formation in this case is a good electionresult obtained by a candidate for the offi ce of President. The result thenserves as the initial capital. It can therefore be assumed that presidentialelections become an extraordinary opportunity for individual politicians toemerge fi rst and then their future formations.
