Summary/Abstract: The term “Japanese philosophy” is here used to cover systematic Japanese thought from ancient times up to the present. The term “English-speaking world” is primarily used to address scholarship in English published in the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom, although there will also be some references to relevant works published elsewhere, especially in Japan. To achieve this goal, the ensuing discussion is divided by author into three sections. First, he will consider historical reasons, second, he will deal with the study of Japanese philosophy as an emergement field within the English-speaking world since 1945. The third and final section will address future directions for the study of Japanese philosophy in English.
