Summary/Abstract: The aim of this article is to investigate the theme of sexual aggression during the interethnic wars in the former Yugoslav area as it is reflected in Matei Vişniec’s play: The body of a woman as a battlefield in the Bosnian war and in Bosnia. Partaj by Miruna Vlada. In the post-war literature, classical subjects are replaced with new approaches concerning abuse, forced maternity, and refugee migration. The representations of war in literature have changed throughout different cultural and historical eras. While the soldier is glorified and heroized in ancient and medieval epics, post-war literature explores the ethics of war, the mechanization of killing, and posttraumatic stress. In post-war literature we observe the coexistence of themes that denounce the violence and cruelty of war on human beings, as well as the emergence of narratives about abuse, forced motherhood, and refugee migration. The post-war literature documents the alternative narratives of official history, giving visibility and voice to the victims of traumatic experiences during military conflicts. While Matei Vişniec denounces the use of war-rape as a military tactic in the conflict in the Western Balkans, Miruna Vlada examine the vulnerable condition of women on the front lines. The woman’s body as a metaphor for mass graves is a striking image with multiple meanings in the texts of both authors.
