Summary/Abstract: The present reflection is a study of the theatrical works Noche de guerra en el Museo del Prado by Rafael Alberti and Guernica by Jerónimo López Mozo. The study raises the problem of the process of theatricalization of the Spanish civil war in the works of Alberti and López Mozo: how does painting represent the conflict and what functions does this remediation of pictorial works play in the theater and in Spanish society? In accordance with the principle of intermediality that enables the analysis of the intricacies and interactions between the media, we show that the two Spanish playwrights personify and re-contextualize painting as the main support of their creative process in the intermedial reconstruction of the conflict. From the aesthetics of confrontation arises an original and painful experience of combat and the need to release the past in order to restore justice and enable the reconciliation of the people with themselves and their institutions.
