Summary/Abstract: An excursion in primary school is provided for by the curriculum. There are also defined legal frameworks or legal procedures that must be followed. An excursion is not a tourist trip, regardless of whether it is carried out through intermediaries, travel agencies. For an excursion to be environmental learning, it must be well prepared. Teachers and tutors should prepare their students in addition to their own preparation. First and second grade students usually visit the surrounding area, while third to sixth grade students usually go to a larger city for one day, while seventh and eighth grade students can go for up to three days. Learning on an excursion is environmental-exploratory, where content and research are linked to the curriculum. Students must be given a synopsis with the content that will accompany certain destinations. Students or groups must prepare a report on the excursion, and teachers must submit a report to the teachers' council, the parents' council and the school board, which adopts the report. In addition to the decisions of the teachers' council, the most important link besides the students is the school's parents' council, as well as the parents themselves, because they declare by signing a written consent that their child can go on an excursion regardless of the decisions of the parents' council, and later the school board. Another problem with organizing excursions is that a public invitation must be issued, regardless of the fact that the parents finance the entire excursion and not the budget. The paper will present a theoretical approach to organizing excursions. An example of comparing classical teaching, educational software and a conducted excursion, which is part of the author's master's thesis, will be presented. The importance of excursions for learning, the so-called ambient learning, as well as the importance of students for socialization, socializing, respect for others, empathy, development of multiculturalism, respect and recognition of the importance of tradition and its preservation, as well as the importance for sustainable development will be presented. Depending on the grade, one-day, two-day, three-day and excursions abroad lasting more than three days are organized. Excursions abroad must have a permit from the Ministry of Education.
