Summary/Abstract: The article focuses on the phrase плотоньскꙑм словесꙑ appearing in Oration 39 of Constantine of Preslav’s Didactic Gospel. This phrase is found in the introductory part of the sermon and has no Greek parallel. The four variant readings of this adjective are studied – as attested in the four full manuscript copies of the monument – and lead to the conclusion that it derives from the personal name Plato (Πλάτων). While discussing the immediate context of the phrase, citations and references to specific biblical and patristic texts are identified. The presence of the proper name платонъ in both common diachronic lexicographical manuals and word indexes to individual translated works is traced. The form and semantics of the adjective платоньскъ are commented on by comparing various suffixes forming adjectives from proper names. Semantic nuances are considered for each type and the presence of connotations is taken into account.
