Descriptions of mountains in the 397th chapter of the Taiping guangji

Summary/Abstract: The 397th chapter of the Taiping guangji 太平廣記 (ed. Li Fang李昉 et al. in977–978) contains short descriptions of various Chinese mountains. The twentyfour excerpts derive from various Chinese sources (e.g. Chaoye qianzai 朝野僉載, Guangde shenyi lu 廣德神異錄, Guang gujin wuxing ji 廣古今五行記,Lizhou tujing 黎州圖經, Luyi ji 錄異記, Qiawen ji 洽聞記, Shidao ji 十道記,Youminglu 幽明錄 , Youyang zazu 酉陽雜俎, Yusi shan lu 玉笥山錄, Yutangxianhua 玉堂閑話), many of which did not survive and are therefore attestedonly in this source. The present paper offers a translation of this chapter of theTaiping guangji and analyzes the textual background of the individual excerpts.
