Summary/Abstract: The article is devoted to the definition and justification of a complex approach to typology and periodization of the processes of imitation and copying of Roman imperial coins on the territory of Ukraine. On the basis of the analysis of key parameters, 10 main subgroups of imitations and copies of Roman imperial coins, which were produced on the territory of Ukraine approximately during the II – IV centuries, were identified and chronologically ordered. The following parameters were used as key features of typology: 1) manufacturing technology; 2) functional purpose (primarily – coin or non-coin use); 3) internal and external interconnectedness of subgroups (presence of die links within the group and outside of it); 4) chronology (that is, an approximate estimate of the period of production of the corresponding imitations and copies, including in relation to other subgroups). The purpose of the article is to define and substantiate a complex scheme for the typology and periodization of the processes of imitation and copying of Roman imperial coins on the territory of Ukraine.
