Summary/Abstract: The aim of this paper is to show students of a foreign language, as well as future teachers, the contemporary approach to teaching foreign languages. As we show in this paper, the communicative approach allows seamless communication, active transmission and exchange of information. In the comparison of these two different approach to teaching a foreign language, using historical methods, we will show primarily the outcome or the result of each approach individually and its implications to the use of a foreign language to be taught.
