Summary/Abstract: One of the greatest security challenges in the complex, globalized system of imternational relations is represented by the political ideology of Radical Islam, on which ideological attitudes and political goals of the majority of active and influental terrorist organizations throughout the world are based. Altgough organizations inspired by Radical Political Islam start from the same religious and ideological bases, there are also certain doctrinal and political differences between them. However, one thing that unites all radical Islamic fractions is their focus on the exterior ”enemy”, that is in the contemporary world, personalized by the Western civilization followed by all other non-Islamic civilizations. Modern relation of political Islam towards Western civilization, however, only represents the continuation of the long tradition of antagonistic relations that have followed two civilizations throughout the history. Although, in the one thousand and four hundred years long history of Islam, its relations with the West in some periods could have been described as peacefull, a lot more often they have represented intensive conflicts of different scopes, which is also a case nowadays, when terrorism inspired by Radical Islam represents the greatest threat to the Western civilization.
