Summary/Abstract: The liberalization of the postal services market in the European Union countries is over. European Parliament and Council Directives on the liberalization of the postal market restrict the postal monopoly and harmonize the obligations of its members towards common universal postal services. The aim of this paper is to examine the existing situation in the postal services market of the Republic of Serbia, to present the current situation of postal market liberalization and to define the possibilities of further development of the market and universal postal service. In order for the Republic of Serbia to open the Negotiating Chapter 3 dedicated to services to the European Union, the basic precondition is the implementation of the Directive 2008, which implies the abolition of the monopoly (reserved area), ie the complete liberalization of the postal services market.
