Summary/Abstract: In this text I am trying to show how the experience of WWI affects the philosophical thinking related to history. The problem of the past catastrophe is an example of arising eschatological ideas and their reinterpretation during the Weimar Era. The oeuvre of Walter Benjamin is emblematic for some processes of that time affecting not only philosophy, but also social thinking and historical knowledge.
