Summary/Abstract: Restorative justice in Czech prisons is gaining momentum, driven by the 2018 Council of Europe Recommendation. The Institute for Restorative Justice (IRJ) has been pivotal in promoting this approach, emphasizing the human dimension of crime and the active involvement of victims and offenders in the healing process. The IRJ's initiatives include mapping the opinions of Czech prison staff, developing a "minimal restorative package" for prisons, and piloting the ReSet program, which facilitates restorative meetings between victims and offenders. Despite challenges such as societal attitudes and systemic rigidity, the IRJ's efforts have led to increased awareness and implementation of restorative practices. The ReSet program, in particular, has shown promise in helping offenders understand the impact of their actions and fostering a sense of responsibility and empathy. The ultimate goal is to integrate restorative justice into the Czech criminal justice system, making it a natural part of the process and enhancing the rehabilitation of offenders.
