Summary/Abstract: Demographic aging is an important feature nowadays, one its consequences being the increase in the number of frail elderly people. Although there is no unanimously accepted definition of frailty, reduced functional reserves and adaptive mechanisms to stress, as a result of aging, accompanied by organic and psychological medical problems, along with socio-economic ones, represent the quintessence of this syndrome. The frail elderly therefore require more medical and social resources compared to robust people. If frailty is currently recognized as a cornerstone of geriatric medical practice, it poses important diagnostic and therapeutic management problems in many medical specialties, which must lead to the recognition of frailty as a distinct nosological entity and the development of public health policies that would adapt the medical system to the concrete reality.
