Summary/Abstract: The work of Mihai Eminescu represents a constant source of inspiration for Romanian visual artists, who have transposed Eminescu’s poetic universe into various forms of visual expression. In this context, it is mentioned that some artists were attracted to the brilliant thinker through his mental structure, while others simply admired his creation on an intuitive and sensitive level. Romanian artists have explored a wide range of Eminescu themes, from romantic landscapes and allegorical scenes with metaphorical content, to portraits of the poet and illustrations of his poems. Some artists have focused on rendering the dreamlike atmosphere and symbols in Eminescu’s poems (D. Paciurea, L. Macovei, Gh. Vrabie, I. Vieru, I. Daghi, etc.), while others have preferred a more realistic approach, focusing on the poet’s portrait and on illustrating scenes from his life (I. Jalea, L. Dubinovschi, T. Cataraga, A. David, etc.). Mihai Eminescu’s work represented and represents an inexhaustible treasure trove of inspiration for visual artists, who continue to explore and interpret his poetic universe in diverse and innovative visual forms.
