Summary/Abstract: Gastronomy is a key element of culture which is linked to its other elements, such as: cultural identity, communication, artistic skills, production, tourism, etc. Food is important for the relationship between the traditional and the modern, as well as it is important for a whole range of significant cultural and ethnological- anthropological phenomena. This paper examined the Macedonian gastronomic tradition as presented through the media, with several gastronomic TV shows taken into account. In all the television shows, it is noticeable that many traditional dishes or products, typical of a certain region, but prepared in a modern way, are present. Food offers many chances for analysis in terms of rituals, symbolism, religion, socio-economic relations, production, consumption, food culture and more recently organic production. In this occasion, I addressed the media representation of gastronomy. Based on everything said so far on this topic, it can be concluded that food and nutrition represent a blend between tradition and modernity, but they are also significant for many cultural and ethnological-anthropological phenomena. Through them, we see the ritual, personal and family tradition, that is, the food culture in the everyday life of the population. The gastronomy is important for displaying the cultural identity expressed through it. Besides, it offers opportunities for the development of tourism; it is the guardian of the past times and the culture of remembrance, which also influences its promotion as an intangible cultural heritage. Nevertheless, it is also a field of creativity and innovation, which is especially noticeable in the modification of the traditional recipes with a modern twist, adaptable to the modern man.
