Summary/Abstract: Media publications representing acts of violence committed or endured by minors have been analyzed in the article. The research interest of the problem comes from the fact that the number of publications presenting cases of violence among minors has more than doubled in 2006 compared to 2005, while criminal statistics indicate an actual decrease in registered violent acts by juveniles and minors in 2006. The analysis is based on the conception of moral panic. Due to the raised medias interest in the topic, children’s violence has become a matter of moral panic in Bulgarian society. The article distinguishes several stages in the development of the topic in the media: violence in criminal statistics; violence as a social problem; and as moral panic. Family impact has been sought through the influences of family structure, of the quality of the family environment, and of parent-child relations towards provoking violence or preventing restraint among children.
