Summary/Abstract: The authors explore the problems of self-determination of the university professor in the modern world. The authors evaluate the position of the famous German professor as the quintessence and logical conclusion of the so-called Humboldtian model of the university, which was established in Germany in the nineteenth century. The authors examine the crisis of the Humboldtian model and its transformations in the past and beginning of this century and note the ambiguous and contradictory position of the university professor in the modern world, often lost in its many labyrinths and dead ends. The authors draw attention to very significant phenomena in the life and activity of the modern university, such as “academic capitalism” and the formation of the “snowflake generation”. Noting the significant differences in the interpretation of the topics they have identified in the available scientific works, the authors argue their position and, at the same time, criticize other researchers and the scientific approaches they use. The authors express their wishes to researchers to study the problems of university intellectuals more thoroughly, without minimizing the difficulties and problems that the realities of the modern world pose to them.
