Relationship of satisfaction with life in students and attitudes towards situation and staying in Bosnia and Herzegovina

Summary/Abstract: The main goal of our research was to examine students’ attitudes towards staying in B&H, and to correlate those attitudes with the respective satisfaction with life and the situation in B&H. For the purpose of this research, two scales were constructed: Scale for examining students’ attitudes towards staying in Bosnia and Herzegovina after graduation (α = .95) and Scale for examining satisfaction with the situation in B&H (α = .91). Satisfaction with Life Scale – SWLS (α = .89) was used for this research. The sample consisted of 242 respondents (68 males and 174 females). Respondents were between 19 and 53 years old (M = 22.40, SD = 3.88). The sample was convenient (students from the first to the sixth year of studies). The research results show that students who had higher scores on the Satisfaction with Life Scale showed a positive attitude towards staying in B&H after graduation (rs(242) = .48, p < .01), and also those who showed greater satisfaction with the current state in B&H had a positive attitude towards staying in B&H after graduation (rs(242) = .27, p < .01). Based on obtained results, it can be concluded that 41.8 % of the sample wants to leave B&H, while 39.7 % of respondents want to stay in B&H after graduation.
