Summary/Abstract: Traditionally, economic studies are aimed at measuring the participation of women in science, based on such indicators as the share of women employed in universities, the share of women researchers, the share of women candidates and doctors of science, etc. However, these indicators do not help in any way to analyze the contribution of women to science. This study is devoted to the development of a new approach to measuring women’s participation in science by measuring their contribution based on scientometric indicators provided by the Russian scientific electronic library elibrary.ru. Using the example of economic sciences, the author examines the publication activity and citation rate of authors, depending on gender, academic title and the university where they work. As a result, the article proves that women authors have higher publication activity, but lower citation rates in journals included in the core of the Russian Science Citation Index (RSCI).
