Summary/Abstract: The study presents the significant literature in the fields of Hungarian special education and disability history, with particular focus on theoretical and methodological developments. The aim of the comparative analysis is to explore the growing prevalence of interdisciplinary historical analyses which are increasingly shaped by social and cultural historical orientations. This reconsideration of historical perspectives allows for examining the social status, identity, and evolving educational and rehabilitative approaches affecting individuals with disabilities. The study summarizes several methodological considerations applied in the examination of disability and special education history such as the period-specific analysis of concepts and the exploration of intersections between institutional education and everyday life.
