Summary/Abstract: Anna Śliwowska’s book Uroczyste wjazdy monarsze do Wrocławia w latach 1527-1620 (Ceremonial Royal Entries into Wrocław in the Years 1527-1620) is a vivid reconstruction of the course and artistic framing of the festivity of royal entrate in Wrocław during the first period of the Habsburgs’ reign in Silesia, namely from the beginning of the Habsburgs’ hegemony and Ferdinand I taking rule over in 1527, to the entry of ‘winter king’ Frederick I in 1620 and the beginning of the Thirty Years’ War. It is the second title from the series Biblioteka dawnego Wrocławia (The Library of Old Wrocław), presenting various issues concerning the city’s history, its history of art and literature. At the same time it is a publication of MA thesis written under prof. Jan Harasimowicz’s guidance at the Institute of History of Art at the University of Wrocław.Royal entrate in Silesia, in the discussed by the author period, have been elaborated by far neither in the social-political context nor in the aspect of decoration and occasional prints accompanying them. The book by Anna Śliwowska fills in perfectly this research gap. Despite the lack of some important for the publication sources, Śliwowska managed to create a possibly faithful and thorough image of royal entries into Wrocław in the first period of the Habsburgs’ reign in Silesia. As an unquestionable advantage of the book comes its versatile presentation of the subject, including both an analysis of a historical-political situation, and an interpretation of occasional architecture programme as well as of occasional literature. Thanks to this we receive a rich in details, interdisciplinary study, which also discusses thoroughly the ceremonies of royal entries in Wrocław in the context of similar celebrations all around Europe.
