Contributions of Julka Hlapec Đorđević in Letopis Matice srpske

Summary/Abstract: Despite the fact that she spent most of her life abroad, Julka Hlapec Đorđević maintained cultural ties with her home country. One of the ways in which this circumstance manifested itself was through collaboration with numerous Serbian periodicals, among which some are of key importance. Letopis Matice Srpske, as one of the leading and most influential periodicals, inviting and gathering collaborators outside the national framework, seemed to be an ideal medium where this writer and social worker with her contributions could point out to the complexity and diversity of inter-Slavic ties. Following with interest the cultural life of the European cities where she lived, Đorđević thus made herself a cultural and literary mediator, striving to express her modern beliefs and attitudes, but also, more importantly, to objectively portray the moods and movements of the Central European world she was a part of.
