Summary/Abstract: The article deals with ways of representing the Peoples’s Republic of Poland and its inhabitants in the novels by the following female authors: Agnieszka Stefańska, Hanna Kowalewska, Grażyna Plebanek and Joanna Bator. The perspective here is that of gender and sociology. The author traces the negative stereotype of the era, shows the degree of its automatisation and points to possible strategies of leaving it behind. She asks about contemporary struggle for recognition connected with this socialist stigma and attempts at touching upon the trouble spots, decisive for the possibility of rejecting the stigma.
