Summary/Abstract: The article deals with the genesis of Gypsy neighbourhoods in the Bulgarian lands during the Ottoman period, from the mention of the first ones in the 16th century to 1878, when Bulgarian state was restored. On the basis of the information provided by various written sources, we examine the dynamics in the development of Gypsy neighbourhoods in individual settlements. The processes of their formation and growth over the centuries are permanent and proceed differently depending on political, socioeconomic end demographic changes.
