The role of the senses and their development in the play of a preschool child

Summary/Abstract: This article emphasizes the importance of early sensory stimulation in a child’sdevelopment. A child’s senses are extremely sensitive to stimuli. The Montessori method,through the manipulation of materials, touch, tracing or group exercises, supports thecognitive, emotional and social development of the child. Sensory Integration (IS) is aneffective therapy for children with stimulus processing difficulties, but the lack of suffi-cient specialists in this area is a problem. Educators therefore have a moral obligation tosupport children who intuitively seek sensory stimulation by helping them with sensoryintegration and supporting their development.
