Summary/Abstract: The subject of the study is an attempt to define the place of industry within geographical space. Attention is paid to the active and passive relations occurring between natural, socio -economic and cultural elements. In the structure of industry, a number of types of enterprises are distinguished on the basis of the size of economic potential (micro -enterprises, small enterprises, medium enterprises, large enterprises, in- dustrial corporations), industry affiliation and ownership (private ownership, municipal ownership, foreign ownership, private ownership with foreign capital). Based on the extent of spatial linkages, enterprises with the following functions are distinguished: global, groups of countries affiliated to international organisations, national, regional, local. Attention is paid to specific types of policy influencing the formation of enterprises (economic, social, international, regional, defence). The overlapping of various economic rules affecting the economic development of enterprises (microeconomic, mesoeconomic, macroeconomic) is indicated.
