Summary/Abstract: The synagogue here is the oldest in France and one of the oldest in Europe. Moreover, it served a community limited to the County of Venaissin, known as the "Pope's Jews," who are neither Sephardic nor Ashkenazi. I had heard about them before and tried to learn as much as I could after passing through the Jewish quarter in Isle-sur-la-Sorgue.
