Summary/Abstract: Datu' mânii (translated literally giving of hand) or the mutual agreement takes place a few days (in the past, more than three weeks) before the wedding, being one of the stages of concluding a valid marriage in Transylvania, in the second part of the 19th century. Although, until 1918, this event somehow replaced the civil marriage, here is that, in Gura Râului, a village in the region of Mărginimea Sibiului, Transylvania, Datu' mânii continues to be practiced even today, by virtue of tradition. This ethnographic article presents in detail the unfolding of this important moment in the lives of people from Gura Râului.
