Summary/Abstract: In this paper, we argue for the thesis that the aesthetic evaluation is based upon the evaluation of the principle according to which the (art)work is created and not on the (art)work’s appearance. Recognition of the (art)work’s principle as the subject of aesthetic values provides a single criterion for aesthetic evaluation that excludes the relativization of aesthetic values and firmly relates aesthetic evaluation to the (art) work as such. Firstly, we will explain in which sense and how the (art)work’s principle is the cornerstone of aesthetic evaluation, and then we will differentiate and further analyse the inner and the outer-inner principle of the (art)work. The resulting conclu- sions prove that the authentic aesthetic value has only the autonomous (art)work with the inner creative principle. Consequently, the (art)work created with no principle at all has no aesthetic value whatsoever, while the (art)work created according to the outer-inner principle has borrowed aesthetic value.
