Summary/Abstract: The article concerns the care work and organizational involvement of womenin the health of their family members. Its primary purpose is to provide a workingdefinition of the concept of family health management and to outline the fieldof research for it, while also discussing some of the available data related tothe management process. The authors also point out the basic gaps in ongoingresearch, and formulate the most urgent research demands for the area in question.The text also refers to the systemic and cultural determinants of the managementprocess, referring on the one hand to the problems of the healthcare systemin Poland, and on the other to broader trends in contemporary culture, whichinclude (bio)citizenship and the individualization of responsibility for health. Thispicture of how health management is practised in Polish families is based on ananalysis of available data (desk research). The challenges linked to transformingthe social roles of men and women, and the contradictions that emerge in theimplementation of these roles, are also pointed out.
