Summary/Abstract: In a remarkable celebration of young literary talent, the inaugural Walter Serner Literary Prize was awarded to David Seltenreich for his poignant short story "Večer v máji," which explores the emotional journey of Holocaust survivors returning to normal life post-World War II. Held at Prague's Royal Theatre, the competition saw participation from over a hundred young authors, whose works delved into themes of war, coexistence, and European history. The event, organized by the Institute for the Study of Totalitarian Regimes, highlighted the enduring relevance of these topics. Seltenreich's victory also earned him an educational trip to Paris, while other finalists received various prizes and opportunities for further engagement. The success of the competition has prompted plans for its continuation, with future editions opening to a broader range of participants, including seniors.
