Summary/Abstract: This paper examines the evolution of the Romanian literary magazine Luceafărul, tracing its journey from its early role as a platform for young writers since 1958 to its politicized phase during the communist era and its subsequent transformation after 1989. It focuses on the recent appointment of Horia Gârbea as the new editorial coordinator by USR, highlighting his inaugural editorial "Tinerețe fără bătrânețe?" which reflects a cautious skepticism toward contemporary youth literature while simultaneously promoting a modest reorientation through the inclusion of young authors. The discussion situates these developments within broader debates in Romanian literary criticism, drawing on insights from figures such as Ștefan Bănulescu, Alexandru Zub, Ștefan Lemny, and Alexandru Duțu. Ultimately, the analysis underscores the challenges of maintaining an alternative high culture in a media landscape increasingly dominated by established institutions, revealing a complex interplay between national identity, cosmopolitan aspirations, and the enduring legacy of communist cultural policies.
