Summary/Abstract: We are examining here the science-fictional universe of Hannu Rajaniemi’s Summerland, focusing on the author’s creative potential in inventing objects and beings and making them stand through and around a logical backbone of science. Since this universe occasions a lot of coined terminology, we are analyzing linguistic aspects as well as some translation elements and vulnerabilities. After the “Introduction”, we are looking closely at the Summerland world – from its most basic and concrete elements, in “Gadgets and items”, passing through the “Activities”, to the more complex ones pertaining to the afterlife empire, i.e. “Summerland – the realm, beings and philosophy”. The conclusions sum up the findings, pointing out some characteristics of the espionage terminology, such as its indirectness and euphemistic quality, and the difficulties and tricky aspects of some translations in context, and reveal the novel as hard science fiction, indicating some benefits of this writing, mostly for the young generation.
