Summary/Abstract: The article deals with the question of the presentation of Franz Kafka in historiographies of German and Czech literatures of the 20th century, as it was practiced in the genre of synthetic representations of national literary history. The specific question is to what extent and how national historiographies of literature reflect transcultural aspects of authors such as Kafka. The present text can thus be seen as a contribution to transcultural historiography of literature.
