Summary/Abstract: Abstract. This article discusses the publishing output in the city of Poznań in the years1945–1950, i.e. the period of its reconstruction following the war’s conclusion. The arti-cle aims to show its development within the first three post-war years, and then its slowdecline throughout the subsequent changing political situation. The new (communist) au-thorities deliberately sought to eliminate private and cooperative publishers from the mar-ket and attempted to curb any publishing activities by other entities. The main thesis is thatthis impediment and restriction to such a dynamically developing activity combined withthe centralisation of the publishing movement in Warsaw led in consequence to a seriousloss and damaging effects on the scientific, cultural and literary development of Poznań.Methods: The basic research methods applied by the present author are bibliographic, statistical and comparative, and the analysis is based on the bibliographic data on the pub-lishing movement in Poznań collected by the author. These data are then compared withresearch results from previous years. Results and conclusion: The author shows that thepublishing production in Poznań between the years 1945 and 1950 was much higher thanpreviously reported in the literature
