The Development of Indo-European *-ln– in the Greek Inherited Lexicon

Summary/Abstract: Two reflexes of the IE cluster *‐ln‐ are generally recognised in Greek: the assimilation of *‐ln‐ to ‐λλ‐, and the vowel lengthening in front of *‐l‐, prompted by the loss of *‐n‐. A reassessement of the relevant Greek material is proposed.
