Summary/Abstract: This text tracks the experimental process of experiencing and exploring a certain music work and discloses the becoming between the symbolic system of the work and that of the listener-researcher (after Marenholz). My encounters with the orchestral work duermevela (2023) by the composer Peter Kerkelov and the attempts to make sense of it are traced on the basis of the specificity of my own hearing and through the prisms of live listening a prima vista, of work’s studio recording, through its extramusical imagery, through work’s inter- and contextual place in composer’s oeuvre, and finally, through the score. This additive process of constructing the meaning of the music work corresponds to latter’s multifaceted character and differentiates between a number of approaches while at the same time takes into account time as a serious (f)actor in understanding and relating to the work – living with the music, studying it at different speeds, as well as forgetting it and returning to it… create conditions for surprising re-encounters, trace different maps, provide unexpected, more intimate perspectives to the work.
