Summary/Abstract: Colloquial vocabulary and features of oral discourse are widely represented in literary works, mainly in direct, dialogic speech of characters. In such quasi-spontaneous, stylized as real colloquial speech, various pragmatic markers are often used, including verbal hesitation (VH), marking various difficulties of the speaker. This work is devoted to the analysis of the features of the translation of one such VH – kak jego (jejo, ikh) – into Chinese. The material for the study was 39 contexts from 8 Russian works from the main subcorpus of the Russian National Corpus and their parallel Chinese translations. The analysis of the material showed that VH kak jego (jejo, ikh) often functions in combination with the marker eto. Translators often translate kak jego (jejo, ikh) as a full-valued expression with the same search-hesitative function as kak jego (jejo, ikh) zovut/nazyvajut, and VX as the Chinese counterparts 这个 zhe ge or 那个 na ge. Thus, understanding and reproducing the function of these markers and their chains does not seem to cause much difficulty for translators. However, understanding the features of the functioning of the VH in the source text requires the translator to use the method of discursive analysis.
