Summary/Abstract: The paper reflects on personal and professional memories of associate professor Jaroslav Fiala, an important personality of regional music history who worked at the Department of Music Culture in Pilsen. Colleagues always appreciated his deep expertise, ability to lead inspiring dialogues and kind humour. He was a model of a noble wit, whose words could burn nicely without ever stooping to vulgarity. Last but not least, his respect for the true art of music, without tinsel or crutches, must be preserved. Jaroslav Fiala was for many not only a model teacher, but also a personality who overcame generational differences. He was close to his students, liked to discuss with them and often remembered their hometowns rather than their names. His kindness and gentle criticism were legendary, which was also reflected in his reviews of concerts. His passion for the art of music and his commitment to academic values left a lasting mark on the minds of all who had the privilege of working with him.
