Summary/Abstract: The article presents the problem of the role of papal primacy as it is exercised in a Church defined as synodal. Moving through three issues – structure, style and events – the author seeks to present the problematic of synodality as such, and within it the role of the pope. This issue is still dogmatically open and it is not possible to present one short answer within systematic theology. The author presents both dogmatic statements from the Magisterium of the Catholic Church, as well as the opinions of theologians, but above all the numerous statements of Pope Francis himself, who takes an active part in the search for the role of the Petrine primacy. The article also provides an overview of the problem of the synodal way in Germany – above all the papal reaction to its abuse.
