Summary/Abstract: Based on the analysis of the Zhablyanov v. Bulgaria judgment, pronounced by the European Court of Human Rights, the author addresses the question of the difficult balance to be struck between freedom of expression, which is one of the foundations of a democratic society, and the limitations that must sometimes be imposed to protect this same society. The research highlights in particular the interpretative techniques used by European judges in assessing the limitations to freedom of expression provided for in Article 10 of the European Convention on Human Rights and the concept of abuse of rights established in Article 17 of the same text.
